Default Equation display problem in powerpoint 2007 beta2

I have a ppt file created with powerpoint 2000 with lots of equations. When
opened with powerpoint 2007, the equations are displayed with mess and cannot
be read. However, when I edit these equations in powerpoint 2007, they look
correct. Is there a solution to solve this issue, thanks.

It's a known problem and MS is working on fixing it for a future beta
release. Your only workaround is to use PPT 2003 or earlier version.

I have the same problem since 3 weeks ago. I made a PPT file with equations
using the "equation editor 3". It looked great, but since 3 weeks ago i
re-openes it and alll the equations can't be read. I am using Power Point
2003.

Is it a bug or a virus?

If you are still running the beta, then it is time to remove it and
install the release version as a 60 days trial from

I know that we are talking about different versions of power point
(2002-2003-2007) but the problem is the same, that is way i decided to post
it here.

If i need to start a new post I will.

Please tell me.
Thanks

Genaro, I'm confused. The subject line and the original post have
to do with PowerPoint 2007 beta, but your post says you're using
PowerPoint 2003. Is PowerPoint 2007 involved at all? If not, I'll
work with you on an answer, but can you make a new post to the
newsgroup with a subject line that reflects your problem?

I'm just a participant, so I have no real muscle to ask you to
start a new thread. Keep in mind though, that some people search
the newsgroups by scanning the subject lines. Therefore, the
subject line should be descriptive of what's inside the post.

Back to your specific problem -- I'm not sure what the problem
could be. If you want to send me a presentation (e-mail in my
signature) with problem equations in it, I'll take a look at it
and see what the issue could be. Send me 2 of them -- one of the
original PPT 2000 docs, and another with the same presentation
after you've opened it in PPT 2003 and saved it. Send them
privately; don't post them to the newsgroup.

Actually, the problem may not be the same. Have you applied all service
packs to Office 2003? That will often resolve these "missing content" issues
in PPT 2003 specifically.

Default Equation display problem in powerpoint 2007 beta2

The problem with the equation editor in power point 2003 was successfully
resolved thanks to Bob Mathews.

The Problem:
Strange symbols in equations made with the Equation Editor 3.

Cause:
Corrupted file fonts.

Bob’s Solution:
Problems like this are pretty much always caused by font problems. Sometimes
people using Equation Editor will define their styles incorrectly, which
causes problems too. You mentioned that you changed your Symbol style to use
Times New Roman font. You need to change it back to Symbol, and don’t change
it.

2. The fact that your slides look fine on another computer indicates you
also probably have at least one corrupted font on your computer. Open your
fonts folder (C:\Windows\fonts) and delete the fonts named Symbol and MT
Extra. You may have more than one of these fonts – be sure to delete only the
ones with a blue TT or a blue O inside the icon. DON’T delete the one with a
red A or a inside the icon. After you do that, save the attached fonts into
your font folder. If you get an error telling you that you first have to
uninstall the font before you can install the ones attached, just close out
the font folder, then re-open it. Look to see if you still have copies of the
font it said you needed to uninstall. If so, delete it again and try again to
install the new one. The reason this happens is because sometimes you’ll have
more than one copy of MT Extra (you probably don’t have more than one
TrueType Symbol font), but only one will show up in the list at any one time.
Once you do these 2 things, open up PowerPoint again (if it was already
open, close it and reopen it), then see if the slides look OK.

Recommendation:
One other thing I noticed you did that I recommend against. Don’t drag the
corner of an equation to re-size it in PowerPoint. Your size definition in
Equation Editor was 24 pt, but you also enlarged it again in PowerPoint. You
may have done it just for the example you sent me, but if you’re in the habit
of doing this routinely, it will eventually cause you problems.
