Default Back 2 Outlook2000 from 2003; is it possible to recover emails and contacts ?

Installed Outlook2003 but I don't like it and would like to go back to Outlook2000; so I exported all emails and contacts to a .pst file, but DISASTER ! Outlook2000 unable to read the file ...
Any suggestion ?

You cannot export from Outlook 2003 because the file format is not
compatible.
Instead you must create a new PST file in the old format and copy your data
into it.
