Personal Folder of Outlook file location
I am wanting to make a backup of the data file(s) that Outlook uses for
email, contacts, calendar, etc. However, I can not determine the file name nor folder location. I realize I may need to create a new .pst file for backup purposes, but I am trying to avoid that step so I can use backup software for auto-updates. Thanks Richard |

Personal Folder of Outlook file location
Prior to Outlook 2003, if you are viewing an Exchange server mailbox, all
of your data is most likely still on the server. If you are usign a POP or IMAP account, your data should be in a PST file somewhere on your computer. Check the properties of your "Outlook Today" item which appears in your folder list. If it's a PST it will show you the location. If it's a mailbox, it will have the word mailbox in the title of the "Outlook Today" object. If you are pulling data locally, by whatever means, all information is kept in a single PST file. There can be additional archives made, which would use other PST files, but the active data is in a PST file. In Outlook 2003 if you use cached mode, your data will be in an OST file. This file is only usable on that machine with that profile, and is of no real value to you without 3rd party tools on another machine. In short, backup any PST or OST you find, and you shoudl be able to recover your data later. Best Regards, Ryan M.
