Default Help - Line Spacing within Table Columns

This problem might have posted before but I could not find it.

I am using a 4 column table as meeting minutes. In the second the
column I am using a bulleted outline to highlight issues within an
issue or to indicate multiple prong attack on an issue. The third and
fourth columns are used for responsibility and status. What the
problem is that the responsibility and status line spacing does not
match up with the outlined bulleted issue column. Some times almost a
full line space off long list. The columns have all the same font and
size. Take away the bullets and everything lines up. We have tried
hard returns, soft returns and all that we can think of. We have had
a lot of comments of the outline format being easier to read so I
would like to keep it.

I am using Word02 on XP.

Any help would be appreciated.

Default Help - Line Spacing within Table Columns

(At least) two possibilities:

1. When you apply bullets (using the Bullets button on the toolbar?), Word
is applying a bulleted style that has different line spacing or Space
Before/After. Your best bet is to turn off automatic formatting ("Define
styles based on your formatting," "Automatic bulleted lists," etc.) and
avoid the use of the Bullets button. Define your own bulleted style and use
that.

2. The bullet is a different size from the rest of the text. Even if it's
just a Symbol or Wingdings character, it may have different leading from the
text font. If you define your own bulleted style, you can select a bullet
from the font you're using (most Unicode fonts include at least small round
bullets, and many have a variety of suitable characters).

I assume you're starting a new row for each bulleted item; otherwise, trying
to get things to line up across the table is much more difficult.

Default Help - Line Spacing within Table Columns

Select the entire table. On the Format menu, click Paragraph.

In the Paragraph dialog box, set "Line Spacing" to "Exactly"; type a
value that is suitable for all of the text. For example, if the
biggest font is 12 pt, you might want to use 15 pt for line spacing.
(Test until you have the value that looks the best!)

If you also need paragraph spacing, do the following: When you have
decided on Line spacing, set "Space After" (also in the Paragraph
dialog box) to a value that is an integer multiple of the value used
for line spacing.

If you don't need paragraph spacing, make sure both "Space After" and
"Space Before" is set to 0.

Hope this helps...

Corrected version of my reply:

Select the entire table. On the Format menu, click Paragraph.

In the Paragraph dialog box, set "Line Spacing" to "Exactly"; type a
value that is suitable for all of the text. For example, if the
biggest font is 12 pt, you might want to use 15 pt for line spacing.
(Test until you have the value that looks the best!)

If you also need paragraph spacing, do the following: When you have
decided on Line spacing, set "Space After" (also in the Paragraph
dialog box) to a value that is an integer multiple of the value used
for line spacing. *Make sure "Space Before" is set to 0.*

If you don't need paragraph spacing, make sure both "Space After" and
"Space Before" is set to 0.

NOTE: If you are using paragraph styles for the text in the table, you
may want to include the format described above in those styles rather
than adding it as direct formatting.
