30 page mail merge labels only prints one page?
You have to perform the merge to see the full results. If you want to check
the merge results before printing, merge to an output document first. What happens when you preview is that Word takes the current record in the data source (and you can move backwards and forwards inthe source data) and uses it as the start record. So if for example, you have moved to record 2, you will see records 2 to 31 on the previewpage, and so on. So you never actually see the second page that you would see if you actually performed the merge. -- Peter Jamieson "Tony Wu" .(n0spam) wrote in message ... What am I doing wrong? 30 page mail merge labels only prints one page?
Aaaah! That did the trick! I wasted 3 hours last night and 3 more this morning trying to resolve this issue.
Thanks Peter! I took your suggestion and merged to output doc. Is it just as easy as Print, then choose in Word 2003, "Microsoft office Document Image Writer. (Brand new to Office 2003, got it yesterday!) Works great! One other question, my label page prints out skrewed slightly due to manual feeding on my Brothers HL-1440. I am tempted to try puting a few in my paper tray, which is not recommended on the Staples labels package. Any thought on this issue? -- Tony Wu "Peter Jamieson" wrote: You have to perform the merge to see the full results. 30 page mail merge labels only prints one page?
The advice is probably to do with the path the paper takes - if the label
stationery bends to go round a roller (more typical of a laser printer I'd have thought) the labels may start detaching and cause jams and other problems if the adhesive gets heated by the printer. So I'd follow the advice unless I was absolutely sure I was not going to damage the printer. But what you should be able to do is create a mail merge main document for the correct label type, adjust the margins until it prints correctly, then save that document and use it as the starting point for future label merges to that printer. You could also detach the data source before you save and close the document. Usually it's less wasteful to check the layout by printing to plain paper (using the same paper tray/path as you will use for the labels) then check the alignment by placing the plain paper page over a blank label sheet. -- Peter Jamieson "Tony Wu" .(n0spam) wrote in message ... 30 page mail merge labels only prints one page?
You are a wealth of good advice and knowledge. How did you get so good?
You are right, I hate to have labels comming off the carrier sheet and jam up my rollers. The Brothers HL1440 manual feed grabs the paper and gets it cock-eyed so the printed label on the left side is within the borders but the top right side prints a little out of the border so I have to throw awau three of the top right labels. That would be a pain to have to repint the top right three of each of the 30 pages! I was hoping the paper tray would feed it in straighter. Perhapes smaller font would give me enough leeway. Also thougth that I could make a longer paper feed guide to keep the paper in proper alignment as it is been fed into the manual feed. Wish I had my old Epson pin fed dot matrix printer from twenty some years ago. Of course, back then, I had my trusty Osborn II CPM system which I bought for $1798.00. I remember doing mail merge in WordStar and dBase II. Got pretty good in SuperCalc too. That was back in the good old days! -- Tony Wu "Peter Jamieson" wrote: The advice is probably to do with the path the paper takes - if the label stationery bends to go round a roller (more typical of a laser printer I'd have thought) the labels may start detaching and cause jams and other problems if the adhesive gets heated by the printer. 30 page mail merge labels only prints one page?
You know the ABC button with the chevrons that you click
to see a preview of your data? Well, over a few buttons to the right of that should be a white field with a 1 in it. This field is flanked by left and right arrows for advancing or retreating through your records. In your 30-label format, if you keyed 31 over the 1 in that white field, the 31st record of your data would appear as the top label, followed by the 32nd, etc. Word of warning: if you try to print from a mail merge preview window, if any records have blank fields, those blank fields will show up in your printed document. Always do the real merge before printing, even if the preview looks right. -----Original Message----- What am I doing wrong? I didn't understand the "Print Output Document" from a previous post and
liked what I saw on the preview screen in step 6 so was having the same problem. I found that I misunderstood the last step which is "Edit Individual Labels." It is only at this point that Word actually completes the merge and you can see all the pages and a completed document. You must complete either a print or edit to see the complete merge. Can see only one page of 30 labels in preview Can click over to additional labels past recipent 30 in "Preview your labels" When I click on "Edit Recipient list" I see in "Mail Merge Recipients" all 900 name/addresses.
