Default Page numbering problem in footers

I'm using Word 2002 and have successfully had each of my 3
different sections number properly but my last section
should appear as "page 1 of 6" since there are only 6
pages in that section but it appears as "page 1 of 12"
since there are a total of 12 pages in the whole
document. I tried to fix this in the Page Setup box in
the footer by making sure the Preview says "This section"
(instead of Whole document) but that didn't work either.
I have also tried to alternate the Section to start at
either Odd Page or New Page but it still didn't work.
Many thanks to you in advance for your time.
Sincerely,
Regina

Hi Regina,

View | Headers and Footers. Click in the problematic footer, and hit
Alt-F9. You will see a {NUMPAGES} field. Change the NUMPAGES to
SECTIONPAGES. Hit Alt-F9 again to show the field results instead of the
field codes.

Sounds like you've already unlinked your sections, but if this produces a
change in earlier sections, you might need to toggle the "Same as
Previous/Link to Previous" icon on the H/F Toolbar.
