Default disk boot failure insert the system disk.

My son formated his hard disk and put windows ultimat. His computer acted
slugishly, it wont boot from the first time. it gave him the message "Disk
boot failure insert the system disk". I checked the "CMOS" setup and I could
not see the hard drive, when I booted for the second time I could see the
hard drive. Know if he wnats to work with his computer he has to boot
twice. How could I ovecme this problem?
thanks.
