In Word when formatting marks are displayed small squares are displayed in
some positions. What do they mean? Is there are general description of all
the marks that could be displayed?

Yes, there is. See:

What do all those funny marks, like the dots between the words in my
document, and the square bullets in the left margin, mean?

Thanks Stefan. Just what I was looking for. My search on "formatting marks"
didn't reveal anything.

Actually, if you search on "formatting marks" in Word help, one
of the search results is

One thing is missing in the MVS article. How can I remove extraneous cell
markers. I do not remember putting them in and I can not get rid of them.
They cause me to have what amounts to blank pages I can not get rid of.

Thanks,
Ivan
