Default OE 6 'Spam'

Between 6am and 2pm Sunday 25th Feb I had no spam emails.
Between 2pm and 12 mid I had 10 of which 7 related to China Fruit
Corp.
Am I to assume therefore that these 'nutters' are in the Uk and
decided to stay in bed Sunday am.
(I cannot find a way to prevent these from arriving I just delete
them)
Peter.

You can /filter in/ your mail, or live with what you see. I believe they are
from Asia, but would have to check the message headers to be sure.
I just delete stuff like that, but there are some other options using OE,
but far from perfect.

You're welcome. They may well stop after awhile. Hopefully, they will.

Since I raised this subject I have found that the number of spam
emails to my Yahoo email address has increased considerably, (these I
now direct to my bulk folder) .Just wondered if those idiots who
generate spam are getting into email addresses via Newsgroups ?
Peter.

They get e-mail addresses a variety of ways.

One way is to infect a PC with a Trojan horse (virus). Some of these
scan the hard disk for anything that looks like an e-mail addresses. If
you've posted to a newsgroup with your real e-mail address and anyone
who has read your post (or just downloaded the headers) gets infected
with one of these Trojans, then your e-mail address will be harvested.

The same can happen if anyone you have given your e-mail address to sent
an e-mail to gets infected with one of these Trojans.

They do harvest e-mail addresses from newsgroups, as well as many other
places.

It is really too late now, but you don't have to use your real address in
most newsgroups. In your case, I would change:
