Lining up columns of text
I'm finishing up my book and I have a huge problem. I am using two columns
throughout my book, Line spacing 1.25 between lines, 3 after paragraphs, Times New Roman 12pt and numerous photos. The text in my two columns is not lining up left to right. So say, the text in the left column is slightly higher than text in the right column. My publisher says this has to be fixed, and now I'm wondering if I might have to rework this in another program. Help! Thanks, Tim |

Lining up columns of text
MountainMan was very recently
heard to utter: XP No such animal. There's Windows XP and Office XP. Any version of Publisher can be run with Windows XP; Publisher 2002 came with Office XP. I'm guessing you mean Publisher 2002, but if you're in any doubt, check Help About. (Hey, I'm a poet and I don't know it!) I know lots of people who think they have Office 98 because they're running Windows 98; it's not true. Might be Office 97, might be Office 2000 (occasionally it's Office XP). Office 98 did not run on Windows, only on Mac OS. Anyway, in answer to your question... Publisher 2003 supports baseline guides to fix this kind of problem. Unfortunately, you're not running Publisher 2003, so you're going to have to fix it manually. You could create two text boxes with one column rather than one with two. Then you could shift the second text box up and down (using the arrow keys to nudge the box) until it lined up. Alternatively, you could stick a column break into your current text box, and then turn the font size right down as far as it will go (you can go lower than the drop-down list tells you you can), and stick some carriage returns (Enter or Return key) in. -- Ed Bennett - MVP Microsoft Publisher http://ed.mvps.org/ |
