HTTP links
Hi,
I am putting together a spreadsheet. One of the cells will contain the HTTP address for various web resources. As you can imagine, some of these addresses are really, long and look like a meaningless, endless line, of garbage! Is it possible for me to enter a 1 word resource description into the particular cell, and put the URL address detail behind this (similiar to if you right-click on IE Favourites, you get option for site name, and a seperate URL address). This would really help in improving the visuals : ) Thx Don- |

HTTP links
Hi Don,
A1: =HYPERLINK("http://www.oneword.com","oneword") For the automatically generated hyperlinks such as when you type in something beginning with "www." A1: www.oneword.com you can return to A1 with arrow key or right--click and edit hyperlinks (ctrl+k) change the text to display to "oneword" . If you look in the upper right corner you also set a screen tip i.e.: "sixty second time limit" -- HTH, David McRitchie, Microsoft MVP - Excel [site changed Nov. 2001] My Excel Pages: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/excel.htm Search Page: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/search.htm "Don Niall" wrote in message ... Thanks Dave - That appears to work. However, when I try to
activate the link from the excel worksheet I get indicating it is unable to do so, as it has encountered a security problem? Is there something I must activate within Excel to enable URL's to be activated? HTTP links
But you were able to use the original links in your browser's address bar?
Try if for =HYPERLINK("http://www.ibm.com","IBM") What is the exact wording of the error and can you tell if it is a browser error or an Excel error. Does the site require a password to access. --- HTH, David McRitchie, Microsoft MVP - Excel [site changed Nov. 2001] My Excel Pages: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/excel.htm Search Page: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/search.htm "Don Niall" wrote in message ...
