Default AutoNumber question

I use an autonumber for some of my tables. This works fine until I have to
update the database for a client, when I do this the autonumber is different
from the one the client is using because they have added new items to the
autonumber table. Here's my question, is there a way to set the autonumber
portion of a table to a new number?
Thanks for your help.

Normally you would split the application into a data only file and an everything
else file that has links to the data file. Then updates that do not affect the
table structure (which is most of them) only involve swapping one front end file
for a different one having no effect at all on the data.

If you import their data into your (empty) tables then your tables should begin
auto-numbering where their data leaves off.
