Default 2000 to 2003 upgrade using mst

We're upgrading Office 2000 to Office 2003 for about 250 users. We are not
upgrading to Outook 2003 at this time because of our legacy mail system, so
Outlook 2000 will remain installed.

I created an MST using the resource kit custom installation wizard, and
setup is run using the mst from a network share. This is working great for
about 80% of the PC's but on the 20% that don't work, Office 2000 does not
get installed, all that gets installed are components that where not part of
the previous Office 2000 installation.

I tried uninstalling 2003 on these PC's, then rerunning the install, but
with out the /qb- switch to be able to view any errors. No errors occur, but
during the install setup after hitting 'next' on the initial screen, setup
indicates that most of the Office 2003 components are unavailable! If I
click the back button, and then click next again, it then shows that the
proper Office 2003 components ARE available. At this point, install
proceedes normally, albiet not in quiet mode.

I have checked these pc's for spyware, viruses, misconfigured network
settings, event log errors. Cannot find any problems. There is supposedly
supposed to be a setup.txt log file in the temp directory, but I have not
been able to find that on any of these PC's. It seems that about 20% of
these PC's read the MST incorrectly, and setup runs incorrectly. I have to
automate this rollout, so I need to get this fixed immediately.

Has anyone seen this problem? Any ideas?

Thank you,

Stephen B.

Corrected some typos, etc:

click the back button, choose complete install, then click back, and choose
typical install and then click next again, it then shows that the proper
Office 2003 components ARE available. At this point, install proceeds
normally, albeit not in quiet mode.

I have checked these pc's for spyware, viruses, misconfigured network

Please assist, anyone!
