Database building question
Can anyone please tell me where i can find good basic information on how to
build an accounting (invoice, payment) database? i have a client database that i want to include a billing for services aspect and I'm stuck. I have already a table for services and their prices and now want to be able to (client specific) create an invoice for a month of services, then when a payment is made for that service i can input that information to show a balance. Any direction and assistance would be nice. I am using Access 2002. Thanks!!! |

Database building question
John, I appreciate all the links you provided however i have been unable to
find the information I was looking for. I couldn't find any templates or examples. Could you be maybe a little more specific on the location for information i am looking for. Or could anyone else give me some help. Thanks! Ltosh "John W. Could you be maybe a little more specific on the location for information i am looking for. Or could anyone else give me some help. There aren't all that many ready to use templates. Accounting applications all have similarities but they all seem to be different too! I certainly don't have such a template ("There's no taste for accounting") nor do I know of one; and if there were one it probably would not fit your needs very well. Perhaps I'm biased, but I don't view Access (or these newsgroups) as a source of finished or ready-to-tweak applications, but rather as a big and well stocked tool chest with tools and resources to build your own customized app. I understand that it's a steep learning curve and a complex task, but you will probably need to either struggle up the hill with the help of the tutorials and resources listed, or hire someone who has done so to build your database for you. I'm sorry I can't be more help in the way you were hoping! -- John W. Vinson [MVP] |

Database building question
John said it well. If I were the experts responding on these forums, I'd
get a little perturbed with all of the "template" questions. Sort of like going to an art class and asking the teacher where the student can find a finished painting done by somebody else of the desired type. But I think that you are just looking for a template just for ideas. Although what you are asking about has a significant accounting function (A/R) I'd be more prone to calling that transaction / invoicing / enterprise software rather than accounting software. For a rudimentary version (where an "invoice" is really just a printout of a sale rather than being treted as an event) , you might start with the built-in Northwind example DB and add capability for offsetting entries when payments are received. To go much beyond that the job gets really big and I've not seen or heard of templates for that. You might have to go with a low end commercial package. |
