You cannot, assuming you mean you copied the Office folders, You can only
restore data files from copies, not programs. You have to install from origonal media, be that a downloaded set up file, or an office cd/dvd "layfabia" wrote in message ... ive reformatted my laptop and before doing that i saved my microsoft office into my external usb. how will i restore it back after reformatting having saved it in my usb? |

You can't.
Office applications have to register themselves, this means they must be installed. I suppose if you knew the GUID -- the really long string of hex digits that you will find throughout the Registry -- you might be able to manually add the apps back in. I've never tried, nor do I know anybody that has tried, but I throw it out as a remote possibility to preclude the requirement of installinig. In any case, us mortals have to install the Office Suite. You can then, or before, copy your various documents onto the newly reformatted drive so that you can open them with the newly installed Office applications. But if the OP has formatted the drive in his computer, that option is not
available. And from the question asked, I presume that the OP's level of technical sophistication is not that high. -- Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook] ALWAYS post your Outlook version! Good point. I had a brain fart. I was thinking that one could create a new
entry, assign a GUID, then set the parameters. But, I don't think you can create new GUIDs through Regedit. You're right though, the OP does not appear to be able to do this. I was reacting to my own statement that Office _must_ be reinstalled, I was acknowledging the caveat that if one knew the GUID -- a 32 digit hex code -- then one could write the Office apps into the Registry and avoid the installation requirement. I know plenty obout my computer, and I would never in a million years be able to know what the GUID(s) would be to get around the physical installation of the applications, even it that was a possible method of getting Office apps to run.
