Duplicate e-mails but different story
I live in the boonies thus bad lines, slow connection, lots of spam.
Sometimes I get a dropped connection (disconnect) while downloading e-mails. If this happens and I restart OE then restart the download, the e-mails that I have already downloaded are downloaded again for duplicates. I have even seen triplicates. I all messages are succesfully downloaded there are no duplicates |

Is this a POP3 account? If you are downloading 20 messages and the process
stops before the download is completed, then all the messages will be downloaded again the next time. The first thing to do is to turn off e-mail scanning. Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for lose of messages. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 Note that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the program and reinstall in Custom Mode and opt out of e-mail scanning when the option arises. Give that a shot and let us know. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "TomJoad" wrote in message ... I live in the boonies thus bad lines, slow connection, lots of spam. That's the way POP3 is designed. In the event of a broken connection,
the server assumes the worst that all the messages downloaded were lost and it resends everything on the next download. If the messages are large, and your ISP offers web mail access, it might be worth the effort to sign on to the web mail before downloading again in OE and delete any messages that you already have. IF the messages are small, it's probably quicker to manually delete the duplicates once they hit OE. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "TomJoad" wrote in message ... Thanks for your help. I had hoped there was some setting that would
help me out. Turned off the virus scan as you sugested and that really speeded up the download process. Just have to put up now with Mcaaffee telling me that I am not protected. You're welcome. Of course you are protected even if McAfee nags you. No way
to turn that off? Even if you reinstall and opt out of e-mail scanning? Another black mark for McAfee. It's still not quite as bad as Norton, but it's catching up. I'd get rid of it when your subscription is up and get Avast, or AVG. Both free and OE friendly. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "TomJoad" wrote in message ...
