Default about to activate ActiveX controls

After migrating from Office 2000 to Office 2003 we are getting the message
"The application is about to initialise ActiveX controls that might be
unfafe".
I've found KB827742 which tells us how to suppress the message, but I'm
more interested in finding out where and what these ActiveX controls might
be.
We get the popup even when opening Word 2003 to a blank document, so I'm
working on the assumtion that the controls are somehow associated with
normal.dot
I've also found that there can be templates additional to normal.dot run
when a document in created - where are these specified?
Am I going to be able to track down these activex controls? Or should I
just suppress the warnings?
