Default File Locations for multiple users

Is there anyway that I can force file locations in MS Word and other Office apps for multiple users on a Win2K system? I'm sure there's a group policy that I can set up, but I can seem to find out how. Any help here would save me soooooooo much time. Thanks!

I'm assuming you mean multi users on one machine having file locations personalised for each one. You need to use the office resource kit (ORK) which you download from microsoft, you can run a profile wizard over office when it's setup and configure the way you want it. this creates a template of how office appears. then you run the custom installation wizard (CIW) to install office on your SOE machines, this can pickup the profile template and has heaps of other features. It's all very easy to use and probably much simpler than running the setup from the cd.

Can I use this on systems that already have Office on them? I'm not looking at new installs. Additionally, I do have a couple different versions of office. Will it discern what version is on the system? Thanks!

Hi Nancy,

I assume from your question that you do have Active Directory installed..or
am I wrong ?

In the Office 2003 ORK, there are the Office ADM files.
Place them with the other adm files in your domain controller.

Next open a new GPO and add the new templates to the list. This is done by
standing on the
"Administrative Templates' in either the User or Computer branch and then
browsing to and selecting
the new *.adm files.

For the file locations, you'll need the wd11.adm (or similar)
in it you'll find the appropriate entry to set.

As these adm files are basically 'pointers' to registry keys, you can use
any registry snapshot program to
see where the changes are located and then simply execute the change in the
users; login script
though I would prefer the GPO method.

Hope this helps
