Thanks PA Bear and Bruce especially for the links to other sites that may be
of help, however after following all the suggestions I am still experiencing the same problem. I am going to take a deep breath and think about my next option. And the behavior persists in a brand-new identity, right?
What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)? Did you really go to the message store via this path:
C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{Long string of letters & numbers}\Microsoft\Outlook Express And after you were there, deleted the Outbox.dbx file whit OE closed? I am not speaking of messages. Did you actually create a new OE identity? That would give you all new dbx files. I think the biggest issue may be he I have renamed it old, so it can rebuild, I have tried to restore my Store folder from a saved version on a jump drive. Did you copy the entire message store folder, or just some selected dbx files? If you copied the entire folder, then you need to copy it to the Desktop and then in a fresh OE identity, import the messages from there. Nothing will work if you are trying to send from OE on a different drive. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP [Mail] Imperial Beach, CA "Vfal" wrote in message ... Yes it persists. I am using McAfee suite which is provided by by ISP, ATT.
It replaced CA suite a few years ago. It never interfered with anything. So are you saying to turn off the email scanning? If I do McAfee is not happy and keeps reminding me to "fix" it. Maybe starting from scratch with the email scanning turned off would help. I am getting frustrated. I have downloaded Windows Live email but wonder if it would really correct anything. Perhaps it will just compound the problem. "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote: And the behavior persists in a brand-new identity, right? Disable email scanning of any antivirus product you are using. Then remove
your email account, close OE and reopen it and the add your mail account back again. Its likely that a 3rd party program such as your antivirus is generating this error. See also www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 steve "Vfal" wrote in message ... It did not work. Other than replacing it with Windows Live email or switching to Thunderbird or reinstalling OE (which I dread) I am out of ideas. "Vfal" wrote: I have two existing identies, mine and my husband's. I rarely use my identity since I use Thunderbird as my email client, so I tried to send under my identity in OE. Same error message. I will try this possible solution and I think if it doesn't work, I will just replace OE with Windows Live emal. I will let you know the results as it may be of help to others "Steve Cochran" wrote: If Bruce's suggestion doesn't work, then go to File | Identities and setup a new identity. Did you really go to the message store via this path:
C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{Long string of letters & numbers}\Microsoft\Outlook Express Yes I thought I did. I have two identities in there, mine and my husband's (which is the offending one), should I complete this operation for both of them.? And after you were there, deleted the Outbox.dbx file whit OE closed? I am not speaking of messages. Yes, I deleted the dbx Did you actually create a new OE identity? I did both.....copied selected files and the whole message store folder which by the way, I have someplace else rather than the default folder. If you copied the entire folder, then you need to copy it to the Desktop and then in a fresh OE identity, import the messages from there. McAfee will keep "nagging" you until you remove it, run this tool, and
then do a custom installation, opting out of e-mail scanning when it is offered. Just unchecking it is not enough. To keep track of things, it helps immensely if you quote all of the previous
message(s) in your replies to the newsgroup. Thank you. 1. Run this McAfee three-step fix: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507 2. Now disable McAfee Security Center's email scanning and anti-spam components. 3. If perchance you're also running Ad-Aware v8.2.x, disable its email scanning function, too (cf. http://www.lavasoft.com/mylavasoft/s...-new-features). And if you don't fully understand what Ad-Aware Ad-Watch does & how it does it, disable it, too. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Client - since 2002 Vfal wrote: Yes it persists.
