Default Bookfold - Positioning Pages on the Sheet of Paper

Background:
Bookfold prints 2 pages per sheet of paper and arranges the page order on the paper so that when the sheets are folded in half and stacked they can be read consecutively.

Question:
How can I get page one to print on the right side of the sheet so that when I fold the sheet in half it is on the outside with the fold on it's left. Like the cover page of a magazine.

Problem:
My file keeps putting page one one the left hand side of the page which does not work the way I want it to.

Thanks for your help!

Default Bookfold - Positioning Pages on the Sheet of Paper

Hello Bill and gardfield-n-odie,

I have the same problem as Bill B. I am using Word 2002
witch supports "Book fold" making. The problem is that if
you select "Book fold" in page setup, you are creating a
book with page 1 on the left side and page 2 on the right
side. In a normal book page 1 is on the right side. I
tried to solve the problem with switching the left and
right margins, but then I get an error message that I am
going to print outside the margins of the printer.

Is this a bug in Word or is there a solution for this
problem.
Thanks for your help!

Jacques

Default Bookfold - Positioning Pages on the Sheet of Paper

Hi, jacques. I just tried bookfold in Word 2002 and it works perfectly with an 8-page document. The first printed page has page 8 on the left and page 1 on the right, the second printed page page 2 on the left and page 7 on the right, etc. I also tried it with a 7-page document, and Word automatically created a blank page to put next to page 1 on the printed output. If you selected "2 pages per sheet" instead of "book fold" in Page Setup, then you would get the behavior you describe.

Default Bookfold - Positioning Pages on the Sheet of Paper

Hello gardfield-n-odie,

Try again with a small inner margin i.e. 1 cm and a wide
outer margin i.e. 9 cm. I use this to make an even
smaller book fold with i.e. size A6. This will show you
that the inside and the outer margin are exchanged.

Thanks for your help,

Jacques

Originally you said the problem is "page 1 on the left side and page 2 on the right side". Now you say the problem is "margins are exchanged". Do you think these two statements mean the same thing?

If you define different left and right margins, and then select bookfold, then the even-numbered pages will have the left and right margins you defined, and the odd-numbered pages will have the left and right margins exchanged from what you defined. This may make the pages look strange in Print Layout view, but the printout output will have the pages in the correct order (odd-numbered pages on the right, even-numbered pages on the left).

No I don't think they are the same. Page one is on the
right side of the paper. The problem is that when you
print a "Book fold" the outer and inner margin are being
switched.

When you select "Book fold" there are no fields left a
right margin on the form "Page settings". The fields are
named inner and outer margin. I would like to make a book
fold with page size 7.4 x 5.2 cm. To achieve this I
define an inner margin of 0 cm and an outer margin of 7.4
cm, a top margin of 0 cm and a bottom margin of 10.5 cm.
After printing and folding I have a book in A3 size. Then
I cut the outer and bottom margin to get a book 7.4 cm
high and 5.2 cm wide. This doesn't work because the
printer prints the pages with an inner margin of 7.4 cm
and the outer margin of 0 cm. So the margins are switched.

numbered pages on the right, even-numbered pages on the
left).
