Outlook 2003 doesn't obey download settings when using Word as edi
Hi,
I have a problem with the download settings for pictures in HTML messages. Our environment is an isolated network with no access to the Internet (www). Sometimes we receive messages with referenced images img... which we can't download due to the restrictions in the environment. This causes the application to hang until the image downloads timeout. To prevent these problems we've turned off automatic download of pictures in the security settings. This work fine for incoming messages but as soon as you reply or forward the message, Outlook wants to download the image and send it as a copy instead. A message is shown stating that "To complete this action, Outlook must download content..." and you can only press OK or cancel the action. When you press OK the application will hang while OUTLOOK.EXE tries to contact the web server containing the images. We then disabled the option "When an HTML message contains pictures located on the Internet, send a copy of the pictures instead of the reference to their location" under Mail Format - Internet Format We then no longer see the warning that Outlook must download files and sending the message works fine. Without pictures of course. This worked fine until someone decided they must use Office Word 2003 to edit e-mail messages. As soon as we enable Word as editor the problems are back again. We even receive the message "To complete this action, Outlook must download content..." again indicating that the setting has not had effect. If we press OK the application hang for several minutes while WINWORD.EXE tries to reach the web server containing the images. I see these problems in both Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 Terminal Server environments using Office 2003 SP3. Is Outlook supposed to interpret these settings differently when using Word to edit e-mail? Can I do anything to make Word behave the same way as Outlook when downloading pictures from the Internet? Any ideas appreciated. |
