Default how to reduce filesize?

hi.
i've created a few ppt slide shows.. there are about 35 -40 slides . each
slide has about 4 pics.. (around 100kb or less).. the total file size of the
ppt is 309000kb!!

any tip i can do to reduce file size? i almost could not open the file after
burning to a cd.
