Default cannot print with new printer

I can print with HP printer but just added Canon D340. Publisher will not recognize the new printer as the default even though I have changed the default in control panel. I downloaded a new printer driver. When I try to print from Publisher I get some pretty wierd stuff on the page along with the real document. When I try to change printer 'properties' I get the following message: "Function address 0x77c43ec0 caused a protection fault. (exception code 0xc0000005) The application property sheet page(s) may not function properly." And then the document causes an error on the printer.

Publisher won't change existing documents to default to the new printer, as
Publisher stores printer information in the file that tells it what printer
and printer settings to use.

Have you updated your drivers from www.canon.com?

Try this:

Open the printers folder
Right click the printer, select Properties.
Click the Advanced tab.
Uncheck the checkbox for the 'Enable advanced printing features' option.
Hit Apply, then OK

Also try reducing the printer name to 8 characters or less if not already.
