incremental counting?????
I am workinging on an .xls spreadsheet with this numbering scheme in Column A.
1 1.1 1.1.1 1.1.1.1 1.1.1.2 1.1.1.3 1.1.1.4 1.1.1.5 1.1.1.6 1.1.1.7 1.1.1.8 1.1.1.9 1.1.1.10 1.1.1.11 how do I get the fourth node to increment on its own, i.e. 12,13,14, once I add data to the next cell over or column B. |

if you use a custom format in column A (starting where you have the 1.1.1.11)
use the custom format of "1.1.1."00 then use an if statement to add 1 to the number above something is entered in column B =if(len(b6)0,a5+1,"") copy this formula down for as far as you anticipate needing numbered rows. In A4: =IF(B4="","","1.1.1."&ROWS($1:1)) Copy down.
