Default prevent OL2003 to use a semi-colon as separator in fields?

Hello,

In my contacts I want to add the children's names in the field "children".
I want to separate the names with a colon (",") but everytime I leave the
field, Outlook changes the colon to a semi-colon (";").
How can I prevent this?

Any help is appreciated!
tia,
bart

You can't. The Colon is used as a designator for something else so Outlook
uses the semi-colon.

So what do you suggest?
I want to merge my contacts to Word.
The selected contacts have to be printed on enveloppes (my girlfriend is
pregnant, and the baby is comming one of these days...)
On the print, I want to have something like:

Mr Bob Harley
John, Mark and Emily
Bigstreet 45
1234 City
BELGIUM

Where "John, Mark and Emily" are the kids of Bob. They should be separated
by colon.
Can this be done with Outlook?
How? It seems that Outlook automatically changes order of display and
replaces semi-colon by colon if I type in the children's name in the
predefined field in outlook...)

thanx in advance!
(as I mentioned before, the sooner I have a solution, the better: my
girlfriend is getting nervous....)

regards,
bart

A colon ':', or a comma ','? Both work. Outlook reverts the use a
semi-colon ';' to a comma ','. At least it did for me. Outlook XP,
sp2.

Cheers,

so OLXP has different behavior than OL2003?
Is this WAD or BUG?
Is it hard-coded?

That's a comma, not a colon.

but everytime I leave the field, Outlook changes the colon to a
semi-colon (";").

Doesn't for me. I opened my own Contact item, selected the "All Fields tab,
and chose "Name fields" or "Personal fields" in the "Select from" drop-down.
My children are listed there in the "Children" field, in alphabetical order,
with commas separating the names.

Forgot to mention,
What are your "Internatiol Settings" in Control Panel of Windows?
Are you aware of any other settings that can influence this weird behavior?

bart

You are using a non-English version of Outlook, and it wouldn't surprise me
if it is some International setting somewhere. If it were happening to me,
I'd look in Control PanelDate, Time, Language, and Regional
OptionsRegional and Language OptionsCustomize and check the "List
separator" setting. I know that a "German" setting uses a semi-colon as a
list separator.

correct.
I am using an english version, but with "belgium" regional settings.
Changed the list separator to ',' and the conversion from ";" to "," is
skipped.

Still have another problem:

if I enter
Nana, Fatou, Izra en Uma,

I get
Fatou, Izra en Uma, Nana

So the first name is move to the last place.
is there a solution for this?
