command & combo boxes

I have 2 problems on setting up my first database.
I have 2 forms with a list of names & command buttons linking the 2 forms.
If i select "Bloggs" in one form then hit the command button it takes me to
"Bloggs" on the second form, this is what i want. But as i move between the
forms the Filter becomes turned on, so that i can only see "Bloggs" & i have
to keep removing the Filter to see the other names. Am i doing something
wrong, or is this normal?

I have set up a combo box on a form, & it appears to work OK when i select
an entry. But when i return later the box is always empty, the entry hasn't
been saved.
