Default Turning off Auto Number Formatting

Excel reads a number such as 10-10-7001 as a date. How do
I turn off 'auto number formatting' so that if I enter "10-
10-7001" it comes off on a report as that - and not a date?

Hi Lorraine
one way: Prio to entering values format the cells as 'Text'
another way: enter your data with a preceding apostrophe. e.g.
'10-10-7001
