Update: I ran a procmon while applying the change of unchecking "mark my
comments with" and noticed it was tryting to access the key: HKU\S-1-5-21-79331101-1198936889-320618023-8679\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Commo n\MailSettings\MarkCommentsWith Upon inspection I saw that the key was actually called just MarkComments. Strange. So I renamed it to MarkCommentsWith. Opened outlook. made the change. Closed outlook and reopened to see that the change stayed this time, eventhough the value of the key stayed 1 and did not chagne to 0. Again strange. I think this should be submitted as a bug to MS. I am going to email my TAM as well. Please let me know if you have any other info. Thanks! "Diane Poremsky [MVP]" wrote: Version of Outlook? Version of Windows? Yes. We do you use GPO's but not for this stuff. That key is also found
where you stated however renaming it only does the trick in HKU no HKCU. It's as if Outlook wants to change a key called MarkCommentWith (according to process minitor) but that key just doesnt exist. markcommentswith controls the name used (in my case "diane poremsky") , not
whether or not the feature is enabled. markcomments (a 0 or 1 value) turns the feature off or on. If you have the policies key, its controlled by group policy. if no policy exists, it falls back to Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\MailSettings \. You could try deleting the policies key and see what happens - or add the data values to Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\MailSettings \ This is mark comments disabled: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\C ommon\MailSettings] "MarkComments"=dword:00000000 -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Need Help with Common Tasks? http://www.outlook-tips.net/beginner/ Outlook 2007: http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2007/ Outlook Tips by email: Exchange Messaging Outlook newsletter: Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com You can access this newsgroup by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...s/default.mspx or point your newsreader to msnews.microsoft.com. Hmm interesting. I guess thats good to know. If it is a policy would you
know what the setting would be called? I checked our outlook policy and dont see anything set regarding stationary etc. Still doesnt explain why me changing the name of key "fixes" it haha "Diane Poremsky [MVP]" wrote: markcommentswith controls the name used (in my case "diane poremsky") , not whether or not the feature is enabled. markcomments (a 0 or 1 value) turns the feature off or on. Upon further inspection of our policy i saw a setting called Enable marking
of Comments which to me would mean it "allow" them to be disabled but should also allow the user to choose to not mark comments. As a test i deinied my user name from that policy and now the setting stays put. I guess its just poor wording in the explanation of the policy. We wanted commenting to be marked by defualt but didnt realize using this policy meant the user couldn't override the setting. Sorry for wasting your time.
