Default Finding a newserver

I've seen a number of posting in a newsgroup that Comcast has dropped its
newsserver, and Comcast states this at their web site.

I could still get to, say, the Microsoft server by pointing one's favorite
newsreader to msnewsmicrosoft.com, likewise for some other newsservers of
interest.

But how would one then get to the "general" newsgroups in, say, alt.* and
comp.*?

I do not believe that those groups have a home server?

Are there free newsservers for this purpose?

Huh? Still $42.95 a month for the standard speed tier, if bundled with TV.
That price hasn't changed in years, despite raising their speeds.

Doesn't help those buying unbundled Internet (Comcast has raised those
prices; but, after all, they *are* in the Cable TV business), or TV (Comcast
has raised TV fees about once a year in the last five years. I haven't
tracked the percentage).

But Internet (when bundled with any TV package) still costs $42.95, as it
has since they only offered 3 Mb/s service. And now users are being upgraded
to 12 mb/s, and 16 mb/s at no extra cost.

Also they changed their SMTP port, apparently without telling their users.

How convenient to not quote the rest of my post:

| Comcast has raised TV fees about once a year in the last five years.

Of course, Comcast never offered NNTP service over TV, only over Internet.
