Default View page number on 2007 Status Bar

I am running Windows 7 and recently installed Office 2007 on it
(previously used Office 2003 on XP machine). When Word loads, it does
NOT show my the page number on the Stagus bar. The only info I see in
the bottom left is Word count. If I click "Full Screen Reading" view
(bottom right on the Status Bar) and then click Escape to exit that
view, I do see "Page 1 of 1" and the position in the bottom left (along
with the Word count). But, if I exit the program and re-enter it, I
only find Word count in the bottom left. How can I get Page number to
show as default? Note: If I right click the status bar (even when the
Page number is NOT showing) I find that the option to show "Page
Number" IS checked.

If you start Word in Safe Mode, does the Page Number show on opening? From
Start | Run (Winkey+R), type in

winword /a

and press Enter. Does the page number show now?

I'd also suggest making sure that you have the latest driver for your
printer and then deleting and reinstalling the printer. Switching views may
be forcing Word to look harder for the local printer driver (which it must
see to be able to paginate and display the page number).

Thank you very much Terry. After going in and out of it several times
and changing the view a few times, it seems to be working fine now. I
really appreciate your response.
