Second Asking HELP files!
HI all
Word 2000. I get the help indexes when requested and a result for the keywords in search, but clicking on the topics does nothing. Where are my help files I wonder? It always worked before... |

Have you tried repairing the installation? If Word 2000 doesn't have a
repair option on the Help menu (it's been a while since I used that version), you could try running the installation program; look for a repair option there. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "AR88 Enthusiast" wrote in message ... Second Asking HELP files!
Thanks Stefan
I tried Detect and repair, including inserting one of my two original Office CDs, but no result. Still get the contents page but clicking on a topic does nothing... Driving me barmy. Always worked before... "Stefan Blom" wrote in message ... Have you tried repairing the installation? Second Asking HELP files!
I had this happen to me when I was using Office on an XP computer. The
problem was caused by an update relating to Outlook security. This update just killed the help files in most of my Office installation in that the hyperlinks in the help files wouldn't work and all of the tabs at the top of the help file didn't appear. I discovered this too late and couldn't restore my system to a time before the Outlook update leaving me with the only option of a new XP and Office install. I left Outlook out of the new Office install until after updating both XP and Office. I then didn't accept updates for Outlook as I didn't use it as an email client. That was my experience and I hope that yours is not so difficult. "AR88 Enthusiast" wrote in message ... Second Asking HELP files!
Ah! That looks like it! Micro$oft does it again eh? No wonder no one
trusts them anymore! Why in heavens name should a security upgrade delete a help file unless it is a greedy grab for more business when people lose the functionality of perfectly good software. I have XP and I notice that it frequently updates itself. That'll almost certainly be what happened. Now I just love my Office 2000 with SR1 (supplied by Jay) and do NOT want to 'upgrade'. Reading all the troubles people have had withb later versions of Word. So can I just reinstall using 2000 from my original discs? Or could I perhaps find the help file and just copy that, do you think? BTW I use it for an email and news client too. "Bogey Man" wrote in message ... You can't get the help files by any re-installation of Office that I know
of. I tried everything but didn't succeed. "AR88 Enthusiast" wrote in message ... Ah! That looks like it! Micro$oft does it again eh? No wonder no one trusts them anymore!
