Default Difficulty in creating new folders in Outlook Express

Hi

I am trying to create a sub-folder under my Inbox. This is something I have
often done before. However when I click on "File" and "New Folder" etc the
little hourglass appears for a couple of seconds and disappears, but no new
folder is generated.

I had the problem some days ago. Then a few days later I tried it and it
worked!! Now it doesn't work again. Anybody any idea what's going on?

I am using Outlook Express 6 and a newly down-loaded version of IE7, if that
has any relevance.

Default Difficulty in creating new folders in Outlook Express

I've down-graded to IE6 again and compacted my mail folders. But I still
cannot create a new folder anywhere in the hierarchy. I can still rename an
existing folder and move it to whereever else I want in the tree, but why
can't I make a new folder? I used to be able to!

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2] and frequently
perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm.

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not shut down your machine while Windows is
automatically compacting your message store.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

You may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main
Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it.
If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the old
identity and delete it.
