"...not a valid Web Archive."
Hi,
This is what I got two times today when different friends sent me attachments that I tried to open. What does it mean, and what can I do to get these attachments opened? Thanks, John |

No idea. What type of attachments are they? Do you have a program
installed that will open files of that type? You don't provide enough information to begin to try and help. Sorry. -- Jim Pickering, MVP-Outlook Express Please reply only to newsgroup. All I know is that I can get two messages from the same friend and be able to open one attachment and not the other. This has been going on ever since I got my new Dell computer 6 months ago. The message always starts with the title of the attachment and finishes with the above quote. It is very frustrating. John |

That suggests the message may be sent using Outlook (not Express) and using
Outlook's RTF format which is unreadable by Outlook Express. See this article for more info, and return the mail to your correspondent and ask them to please send it to you again using either Plain Text or HTML and not RTF which is intended only for intranet (corporate) use. See the Identifying Attachment File Types and Setting File Associations section of
Decoding Internet Attachments - A Tutorial http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_san...e.htm#identify Is your friend perhaps using a Mac? The AppleDouble attachment format sends 2 attachments for each file. The first is a control file only usable by another Macintosh, the send is the real file. If that's the case, just ignore the file that won't open. For more information, see the Macintosh section of the above tutorial. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "john mumby" wrote in message ... Hi Michael,
No, my friends have PC's. I only get one attachment, so I guess Jim is right when he said that I don't have a program to read the RTF. Thanks again for responding to my email, Jim and Michael, John |

Hi John,
One program to try is WordPad. Microsoft offers a free viewer for some apps, such as Word. You might be able to open (view only) the attachment. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MVP - (IE/OE) Lynnwood, WA * "john mumby" wrote in message ... Hi Michael, No, my friends have PC's.
