EML Messages Will Not Open in Outlook Express

Since I installed Windows Live Mail eml messages will not open in OE6. But
instead in Live Mail which seems to take forever. I have tried resetting the
default programme by right clicking an .eml message and trying to open with
"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe". However OE6 launches without
opening the message.

Is there a way to solve this problem?

then try: Start, Run and enter the following (with the quotation marks):
"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

The problem with just making MSIMN.EXE the default for EML files that it
requires a parameter, or else you get the result that you have.

Thanks Bruce and Michael. OE6 is set as the default mail client. There is no
problem running OE6 and syncronising. Ther problem is when I try and open a
saved eml message on my desktop. I have set Windows to open eml files with
the path C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe". I tried the 2
suggestions in the article:

I also ran the command:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg


Unfortunately nothing has changed. When I double click a saved eml message
Outlook Express launches but without opening the particular message I have
clicked upon.

Is there anything else I can try?

Strange. Right click on one of the "Envelopes" on the Desktop and Open With
| Choose Program. Select Outlook Express and then check the box: Always use
this program to open this kind of file.

That article assumes that the drive the Program Files directory is on is C:
If that is not your boot drive the instructions would have to be amended
accordingly.

Before trying that you would have to make sure that msimn.exe
was not already running. E.g. use Task Manager to do that.

Then Michael's comment still applies. Probably something is interfering
with the correct updating of the registry--e.g. a security product you may
have active.



Is there anything else I can try?


Diagnose your symptoms. In a cmd window (aka Command Prompt)
enter these two commands and capture the results for a reply:


assoc | find /i "mail"
and
ftype | find /i "mail"

I tried the right click always open with OE6 method but this did not solve
the problem. Also all my programmes are on my C Drive. Default mail programme
is set to OE6 (not set to "use current programme").

And Yes, I recently installed IE8 which may have something to do with the
problem???

IE8 /is/ a possible cause, especially if it was installed with your
anti-virus running.

Remove IE8 and restart twice.

How do I uninstall or remove Internet Explorer 8?

Is all back to normal? If so, and you want to give IE8 another try:

Download IE8 to your Desktop. Do not use Windows or Microsoft Updates.

Internet Explorer 8 download:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...3-08cdecd8852b

Restart your computer. With no other programs running, disable your
anti-virus program and any spyware or spam programs you may have. If you are
running a third party firewall, disable it and enable the Windows firewall.

Now install IE8 from the Desktop. When you're done, restart your computer
twice and then make sure your disabled programs are running again.
