Cannot change page layout

When I go to File-Page Setup- and switch to landscape
mode I cannot close out with the error message
"Increasing right margin causes last column to become too
narrow in some sections having uneveningly spaced columns"

I therefore can never create a document in landscape
mode. I can however pull up a previously saved landscape
document delete the contents and resave it as a work
around.

Any Ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

Go to Format | Columns and make sure that the number of columns is set to 1.
