as Doug said, you can't. what i do is add a Watch to threads that i respond
to, or that interest me, and have the messages pane sorted by the Watch
column, so those threads are always at the top. in Tools | Options | Read
tab, i set the Watched messages to color Blue. as i go through each
newsgroup and download new posts, each newsgroup name in the Folders pane
turns blue if there is an unread message on a Watched thread in that ng.
easy to go through and read new messages on those threads.

BTW, how do you receive notifications of replies here?

Hi Neil,

Sorry about the late reply....I just now received a notification message
that there was a reply waiting for this thread (due to the post that
Jeremy
Ellison just made). I did not receive a notification message when you
posted
a reply on April 8th, but I noticed this message just now.

In answer to your question:

When I run it (in Access 2003), it pops up "The spelling check is
complete"
if there are no errors. You don't get that?

I do not get any such pop up.

Good to know. Plus, I also like to post in CDMA, so that would make it hard
to do.

I wonder if Google Groups has such a feature. I know you can search for
replies to your messages. But I wonder if there's a notification option.

"Douglas J. Steele" wrote in message

You're using Outlook Express to connect to this newsgroup, so you don't
have the option of receiving notification of replies. That's only a
feature in the web interface Microsoft's created for the newsgroups. (and
believe it, it's not work switching to the web interface just to get that
feature!)

Yes, that's what I do now. But, since I don't post frequently, and am not in
the newsgroup all the time, it means I have to keep coming here just to
check if I have messages. Being notified would be so much easier. Plus, if
someone posts a message, say, a week after the thread has died down, I don't
get it, because I've stopped looking at the thread.

All decent newsreaders have a feature that filters to only messages that
we write. In Outlook Express it is:

View Current View Show Replies to my Messages

Since we post frequently, we only need apply the filter and go through our
threads. Not only is it much faster that using a browser based reader,
since we've already downloaded all the existing messages, we can see the
entire thread at lightning speed, as well as every message in every thread
that we've participated in within a few seconds.

Yes, per the response I just posted to Arvin, I use the watch property after
finding threads that I'm looking for replies to, etc. But it would be nice
to be notified. I miss that about Compuserve, back in the good ole days,
when Compuserve was the place to go for technical information. At least
you'd get notified. And if you didn't read a post after a certain amount of
time, it would scroll to you via e-mail, instead of getting lost forever as
in the newsgroups (well, I guess with Google archiving everything, that's
not true anymore). Still, those were the good ole days...... :'-(

Hi Neil,

If you'd like to try the web portal, then try this link:

http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...c.access&exp=1

You'll need to have a Microsoft Passport to post questions, but the sign-up
process is pretty easy. To find this thread, click on this link:

http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...5-87f097b73c4a

As painful as the web interface can be at times, I do like receiving e-mail
notifications, and being able to follow up on questions from any web enabled
PC.

Oops. The web portal was hiccuping earlier with a "Service not available"
message. I thought I had the correct URL copied in when I wrote, earlier: "To
find this thread, click on this link: ~~~~~~~~~~"

Try this URL instead:

Thanks, Tom. Since I always cross-post my messages in the CDMA newsgroup, it
would be a pain to have to use two methods (web portal and Outlook Express).
But thanks anyway.

I might consider using Google Groups to post. I think (but not sure) they
have some sort of notification there.
