using endnotes among different files
Hello,
I would like to know if anybody knows a way to use some Word features like automatic numbering of endnotes among documents divided in multiple files. For example, I have to write a thesis (more than 100 pages) and from past experience I learned that is better to divide each chapter in a separate file. But if I have to insert endnotes and have them automatically numerated and placed in one file for the whole thesis, will I have to do this manually? Thanks, Gigi |

Well, to accomplish this, MSoft will tell you to use the master/subdocument route, but that is an unmericful mess. There is an IncludeText field which allows you to insert documents as well.

Dear god, yes, avoid master documents (more below).
But Word will handle a 100pp doc fine (up to 10K pages depending on user efficiency and computer's memory)--what past experience tells you to keep it in separate files? But there isn't so much difference combining it and editing it in one file, or editing it in separate files but using IncludeText to combine it into one file for printing, etc. The IncludeText field is created by using Insert | File but checking "Link to File" when you do it.
