Default "initializing folders", how to edit network delay?

As anyone figured out how to edit ( I assume through a registry edit?) the
time out/delay in office when you are trying to open a file and get this
"initializing folders" dialog box that take forever to get rid of? I know
it is because I have disconnected network drive attached that I need to
delete but can anything be done about the time it takes to get rid of the
message?
Thanks
