Backing up email

I can't answer that. It depends on how important your messages are to you.

With the updates you have, every time the message stor is compacted a
copy of the data files is made in the Recycled bin with the extension BAK
instead of DBX. OE is inconsistent about deleting the old copy so you
may have to empty the bin yourself.

Open the Address Book in the old identity and File | Export to any place
on your HDD that is easy for you. My Documents is fine.

To restore, open the Address Book and File | Import and point to where you
saved it. To be extra safe, copy it to CD also.

For messages:

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of
your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder
location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the
location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise,
write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K03, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options
Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.

Right click on the Outlook Express folder (Message Store) and Send To | My
Documents. Copy this to CD also as an extra precaution.

To restore if necessary, in OE: File | Import | Messages. Select MSOE 6
and Import from an OE6 Store Directory and point to where you saved it.

If you use a CDRW, you can erase it and backup again using the same CD
every week or when you feel it necessary.

I make use of Acronis True Image for my back up mainly of my own data. It
is an easy programme to use and I have no difficulty understanding their
instructions and help.

worked perfectly but unfortunately I had not backed up my emails etc. So
I now use OE backup procedure but find it not sop easy to understand as
True Image.
I read your help web pages but was left confused.
I just want to save my emails and address book.

Now that you have resolved your immediate problem of backing up emails have
you given any thought to backing up other files?

I have no problems with backing up my files . I use Acronis True Image which
