Default Office 2003 on Vista Business with internet application

I have a client using an internet-based document management application. The
site concerned is a "Trusted Site" in IE.

The application opens Word 2003 on the local computer for input, then saves
the data to the remote server.

The problem is that AutoText entries saved in Word during normal use are not
available when Word is opened via the internet application, and AutoText
entries saved whilst at this time are not then available in normal use or
even on later use via the internet application.

It may or not be relevant, but whenever Word is opened via the internet
application no data is shown until the instance of Word is minimised and
restored.

I'm guessing that this is a security measure to partition off the internet
use from the general computer, but it's causing problems for my client's
secretaries.

Can anyone help with this?

Thanks,
Paul

Dear Paul,

Thank you for posting in our Partner Online Technical Community.

Before we go further, please let me know whether the AutoText entries saved
in Word during normal use can be used properly after starting Word program
without using this Internet-based document management application.

If everything is working fine after starting Word program without using
this Internet-based document management application, I think the issue may
be due to that application. The third party application is out of our
community support boundary.

In addition, please let me know the version of Word you are using.

Have a nice day.

Steven Du

Default Office 2003 on Vista Business with internet application

Hi Steven,

The client is using Word 2003.

AutoText works as expected when Word is launched through the Start menu.

Could Vista or IE be preventing Word from seeing the user's normal.dot when
Word is launched from the internet-based application? If so, can we alter
this setting?

I understand that 3rd party software is beyond the scope of your support;
it's beyond mine as well. I do have to be sure that the problem does not lie
with my client workstation setup though.

Unfortunately, the 3rd party running the internet-based document management
application is refusing to accept responsibility for this at present, and I
don't want to join them in a game of ping-pong with my client!

Thanks,
Paul

Dear Paul,

Generally speaking, Vista or IE will not prevent Word from reading the
user's normal.dot file. As I know, Windows Vista has the high security
level functions such as the UAC feature. We may follow the steps below to
disable it as a test:

Turn off UAC (User Account Control)
=================
1. Click Start. Go to the Search textbox. Type MSCONFIG, and press Enter.
2. Click Tools.
3. Highlight Disable UAC, click Launch.
4. Restart the computer.

I do not think the issue is related to IE because the Word file can be
launched via the Internet application properly.

I think it is possible the issue is due to a design flaw of that Internet
application.

Have a nice day.
