Default Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer

Thanks Steven,

HP was my first port of call and they have already passed the back to MS.

Dear Matt,

According the following error message, our issue seems to be due to the
network connection or the printer driver.

"Your file could not be printed due to an error on \\gmd-dc1\prn0?-? on 1.
There are several possible reasons:

There may not be enough memory available, try closing files and programs
you aren't using. If you use a network printer for printing, there may be a
problem with the network connection or the printer driver. The may be loose
cables or a bad connection between your computer and printer."

Since the file can be printed in Word program successfully and Excel
program printed files properly later, I do not think there are problems at
the Office 2007 side. In the meantime, Office 2007 and Windows XP system
have been reinstalled. Therefore, all corrupted components should have been
repaired.

In addition, I found the following article for your reference. Though this
article does not refer to Office 2007 and the HP printer Colour LaserJet
9500MFP, it is possible that there is a problem with the HP printer driver
and we may need to contact the HP support at same time:

You receive "Out of memory" error messages when you run Office 2000 programs
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;EN-US;Q218864

On the other hand, we need to tourbleshoot the network connection side as
well. Is it convenient for you to move the problematic computer to a new
environment and install another printer instead of the HP printer?

Since the issue is intermittant, it may be better to submit a new case from
the link below to continue troubleshooting this unusual issue:

Default Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer

Dear Matt,

I understand that the HP support has passed you to Microsoft. However, if
the issue remains after performing all troubleshooting steps I provided, it
is possible that the cause of our issue is still at the hardware device
side.

After searching in our internal database, I found the following articles
and we may perform steps in them:

How to troubleshoot problems that you may experience when you try to print
to a local printer by using Office programs in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/870622/

Advanced troubleshooting for when you cannot print in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314085/

You receive an error message if you try to print a document on Windows
2000-based and Windows XP-based computers
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873396/

Have a nice day.

| | | That is correct. I have just witnessed another printer error on
the

on
| the
| | print
| | | button in Excel, the following error was displayed:
| | |
| | | "Your file could not be printed due to an error on

| | | There are several possible reasons:
| | |
| | | There may not be enough memory available, try closing files and

| | | If you use a network printer for printing, there may be a problem

All updates applied. I get this error message on an intermittent basis when
I try and print from Word 2007, Excel does the same but gives a slight
different error message. When the problem occurs I can still print to the
same network printer from Wordpad or Notepad.
Approx 30+ users can still use the same printer when the error occurs.

A reboot temporarily cures the problem. The Workstation in questions has
been wiped and rebuilt using the manufacturer's recovery media and Office
2007 reinstalled using a download from the Microsoft EOpen site.

Problem is still occuring though. Any help would be gratefully received.

I have found a hotfix, on the Microsoft site that appears to address the
problem I am experiencing: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873396

However, from the list of hotifixes available x64 does not appear to be
catered for? Does anyone know where I can get this hotfix?

Dear Matt,

Please expand "Show hotfixes for all platforms and languages" on the hotfix
download page to find the x64 version.

In addition, that hotfix is also included in Windows XP Service Pack 2 x64
edition and we may download it from the link below:

Thanks Steven,

I think I must be going blind as I can't find "Show hotfixes for all
platforms and languages" on the download page. I will try SP2 but to my
knowledge it is already installed.

I'll keep you posted.

Default Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer

Dear Matt,

To find out the root cause of this issue we may need to analyze memory
dumps, this work has to be done by contacting Microsoft Product Support
Services. Therefore, we probably will not be able to resolve the issue
through the newsgroups. If the issue is urgent, I recommend that you open a
Support incident with Microsoft Product Support Services so that a
dedicated Support Professional can assist with this case. If you need any
help in this regard, please let me know.

For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services phone numbers,
please go to the following address on the World Wide Web:

| Dear Matt,
|
| From your description, I understand that there are some errors
| appearing
| when printing in Word 2007 and Excel 2007. The error does not
| occur
| when
| printing in Wordpad or Notepad. In addition, you have
reinstalled
| Office
| 2007 and Windows XP x64 system.
|
| It is possible that our issue is due to the printer driver or
| third
| party
| add-ins because all corrupted files of Office 2007 or Windows
XP
| should
| have been repaired after reinstalling them. To avoid any
| confusion, I
| recommend we focus on Word 2007 firstly. Please follow the
steps
| below
| to
| troubleshoot the issue:
|
| 1. Click Start menu.
| 2. In the Run box, type: "Winword /a" (without the quotation
| marks).
| Notes: There is a space character between Winword and the
forward
| slash
| (/).
| 3. Press Enter.
| 4. After the Word program is opened, please open a file in
Word
| 2007.
| 5. Please click Print option to check whether the error
appears
| again
| or
| not.
|
| If the error appears again, I assume Office Document Imaging
is
| installed
| on the computer and please follow the steps below:
|
| 6. On the Print settings, under Pinter, please change the
printer
| to
| Office
| Document Image Writer.
| 7. Click OK to check whether the error occurs or not.
|
| If the same error occurs, please also help me to capture a
| screenshot
| of
| the error message:
|
| a. Press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard.
| b. Click the 'Start' menu.
| c. Type 'mspaint' in the Run box and Press Enter.
| d. In the Paint program, click the 'Edit' menu, click 'Paste',
| click
| the
| 'File' menu, and click 'Save'.
| e. The 'Save As' dialogue box will appear. Type a file name in
the
| 'File
| name:' box, for example: 'screenshot'.
| f. Make sure 'JPEG (*.JPG;*.JPEG;*.JPE;*.JFIF)' is selected in
the
| 'Save
| as
| type' box, click "Desktop" on the left pane and then click
'Save'.
|
| Please send this saved JPEG file to my email account at

Default Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer

Steven,

I think I may have resolved the problem. On the x64 machines that were
experiencing the problem, I removed the network printers and reconnected them
using local ports.

They all seem to be working now.

Thanks for your help,
Matt

Thanks Steven,

I think I must be going blind as I can't find "Show hotfixes for all
platforms and languages" on the download page. I will try SP2 but to my
knowledge it is already installed.

I'll keep you posted.

Matt

Dear Matt,

Please expand "Show hotfixes for all platforms and languages" on the hotfix
download page to find the x64 version.

In addition, that hotfix is also included in Windows XP Service Pack 2 x64
edition and we may download it from the link below:

Service Pack 2 for Windows XP Professional, x64 Edition

Have a nice day.

| I have found a hotfix, on the Microsoft site that appears to address the

|
| However, from the list of hotifixes available x64 does not appear to be
| catered for? Does anyone know where I can get this hotfix?
