Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer
Dear Matt, Regarding the "Current printer unavailable" error message, it is possible that the cause of the issue is at the printer side. Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer
Thanks Steven,
I will give those KB's a try. However, I have already reinstalled the driver from HP's website, reinstalled Office and XP on the affected machine. I don't think it is the printer as the problem only affects the user with Office Pro Plus, but at this stage I am willing to try anything. The printer is an HP Colour LaserJet 9500MFP. On the other hand, I recommend we perform a Clean Boot on Windows XP system: This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Please perform the following steps: a. Click Start and click Run, type "msconfig" in the Run box and press Enter. b. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). c. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". Then, restart your computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK. d. Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer
Steven,
That is correct. I have just witnessed another printer error on the same machine. The user was trying to print a worksheet. When clickin on the print button in Excel, the following error was displayed: "Your file could not be printed due to an error on \\gmd-dc1\prn0â–¡ on 1. There are several possible reasons: There may not be enough memory available, try closing files and programs you aren't using. If you use a network printer for printing, there may be a problem with the network conenction or the printer driver. The may be loose cables or a bad connection between you computer and printer." With this error message still open I was able to open Microsoft Word and print another document successfully. I closed word and tried resending the worksheet to the printer, which was successful also. Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer
I'm not sure if this helps or makes this worse. The user has just told me
that on occasion he also gets a message in the bottom right hand corner of Excel that says "Opening filename, pres Esc to Cancel", when he double clicks on an XLSX file. It doesn't happen all the time and useally sorts itself out. "Mattps" wrote: Steven, That is correct. I have just witnessed another printer error on the same machine. Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer
Dear Matt, According the following error message, our issue seems to be due to the network connection or the printer driver. "Your file could not be printed due to an error on \\gmd-dc1\prn0?-? on 1. There are several possible reasons: There may not be enough memory available, try closing files and programs you aren't using. If you use a network printer for printing, there may be a problem with the network connection or the printer driver. The may be loose cables or a bad connection between your computer and printer." Since the file can be printed in Word program successfully and Excel program printed files properly later, I do not think there are problems at the Office 2007 side. In the meantime, Office 2007 and Windows XP system have been reinstalled. Therefore, all corrupted components should have been repaired. In addition, I found the following article for your reference. Though this article does not refer to Office 2007 and the HP printer Colour LaserJet 9500MFP, it is possible that there is a problem with the HP printer driver and we may need to contact the HP support at same time: You receive "Out of memory" error messages when you run Office 2000 programs http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;EN-US;Q218864 On the other hand, we need to tourbleshoot the network connection side as well. Is it convenient for you to move the problematic computer to a new environment and install another printer instead of the HP printer? Since the issue is intermittant, it may be better to submit a new case from the link below to continue troubleshooting this unusual issue: http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...61&gprid=29933 6 Have a nice day. Please perform the following steps: | | | | | | a. Click Start and click Run, type "msconfig" in the Run box and | press | | | Enter. | | | b. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft | Services" | | box | | | and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). | | | c. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". | | | | | | Then, restart your computer. When the "System Configuration | Utility" | | window | | | appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the | System | | | Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK. | | | | | | d. Test if the issue occurs in Clean Boot. | | | | | | Note: Temporarily disabling the Startup Group only prevents the | startup | | | programs from loading at startup. This shouldn't affect the system | or | | other | | | programs. We may still manually run these programs later. | | | | | | e. Please continue to monitor our issue in Clean Boot mode for one | day. | | | | | | To restore the computer to use a Normal Startup, repeat steps 1 | above. | | Then | | | click Normal Startup on the General tab, click OK, and then restart | the | | | computer. | | | | | | Have a nice day. | | | | | | Regards, | | | | | | Steven Du | | | | | | Microsoft Online Support | | | Microsoft Global Technical Support Center | | | | | | Get Secure! - www.microsoft.com/security | | | ================================================== == | | | When responding to posts, please "Reply to Group" via your | newsreader | | so | | | that others may learn and benefit from your issue. | | | ================================================== == | | | This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no | | rights. | | | | | | | | | -------------------- | | | | | | | From: =?Utf-8?B?TWF0dHBz?= | | | | Subject: Windows cannot print due to a problem with the | current | | | printer | | | | Date: Wed, 19 Nov 2008 02:01:01 -0800 | | | | | | | | | | | Thanks Steven, | | | | | | | | I will give those KB's a try.
