Default can't assign a value

Good day! Every time i enter a data to my combo box an error message appears.
"You cant assign a value to this object (1) The object may be a conrol on a
read-only form. (2) the object may be a form that is open in design view and
(3) the value may be too large for this field.

i've checked all the conditions (1) Data entry property set NO (2) its not
opened at design view at all by anyone (3) i've set the text field size to
225 since both the field and row source are text.

There was no problem with this form yesterday, now its showing all this
error messages. Help is greatly appreaciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi benj,

Have you checked that you haven't set allow edits/updates to NO, or that
your query hasn't been modified so that it is no longer an updateable query
(eg: you have a join that doesn't link tables via the primary key)

Damian.

Thanks Damian!

The record source query is a SELECT QUERY from a single table. The allow
filters, edits, deletions and additions are set to YES. What could be the
problem?

Thanks!

No worries... please paste the rowsource from your combo box so we can see
what's happening...

Also, when you say you set your field size to 225, do you mean you did this
in the table?

Here is the row source of the combo box: SELECT Organism.Organism,
Organism.Type FROM Organism WHERE (((Organism.Type)="bacte"));
the field Organism is a text primary key with. I think i made a mistake in
saying that i've set the field size to 225. what i did was adjusted the
field size in both tables to 225 to see if it was the problem. I re-adjusted
the field size of both tables to 75.

Thanks Damian!

Alright, if this is your setup (and can I suggest you usually want to have an
autonumber field for your primary key in future), you need to ensure that
your combo box is bound to the appropriate text field in your table, you have
bound column set to 1, column count set to 2. Limit to list set to Yes.
Make sure your text field is big enough to store the value.

If they are all correct, it should work. Are you trying to update an
existing record or start a new one? Does it work in an existing record?
Does it work in a new record?

If you can use the combo box to change existing records, but not to assign a
value to a new record, have you considered that it might not be the combo box
that is the problem, but another field on your form???

i have only 3 fields for that table/form (TM_bi_ast & FM_bi_ast). The bcode,
which is a number field linked to the mainform (1:M relationship), bsort
(autonumber, primary key) and the bacteria (combo box with row source
tblORGANISM). In the form FM_bi_ast, beside bcode (Enabled = NO, Locked =
YES, Visible = NO, it is used to link when opening another form) and
organism, i also have 4 unbound column with data source =fConcatChild(.....).
The function fConcatChild was developed by Dev Ashish
(http://www.mvps.org/access/modules/mdl0004.htm) and works fine.
