Default Synchronizing two contact lists

I'm working with Outlook 2003, Internet only (stand-alone, not connected to
Exchange, Active Directory, etc)

I have built up over the years a mailing list of email addresses in Access.
Some of them are in my Address list in my Outlook. The Address Book in
Outlook also, of course, contains more than in the Access list. Either or
both could have the latest data, but I think my human eyes would be able to
tell which is the newer data that I want to keep.

I can bring my entire Address book over into Access, and do the manual
matching there - matching dissimilar names for the same people, marking
obsolete addresses, etc. One of the things I like about using Access is that
I can keep a master list of all addresses, including obsolete DONOTUSE
addresses, so that when I come across a new address, I can check on the
master list.

The difficulty is getting this cleaned-up list back into the Outlook Address
book.

I'm pretty handy with VBA, reading documentation, and using Object models,
and could write some code to do it, if that's the most straight-forward way.
An attraction of this would be that I could later modify it for other
purposes, if I needed to, like I wanted to start keeping track of who
responded to what emails, etc.

I'm just not sure what would be the best approach to take on this project.
I've been putting it off for several years. I have quite a back log, and I'm
psychically ready to dive in and get this figured out.
