Mail folder query
I have Thunderbird and OE6 installed under XP and use both. Today,
suddenly, my mailboxes in OE6 (not the defaults) disappeared. Newsgroups are ok and incoming and sending mail work. Also, Thunderbird is not affected. All my DBX files are there in my OE6 mail folder but I notice that File Type says "WOE5Ex Document" instead of "DBX File" and obviously OE6 can't see them. I've looked at importing Mail from Thunderbird but this doesn't seem to be an option. Any ideas? P J Macguire |

Mail folder query
Why it happens:
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/probl...s.htm#mailgone http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/...orruption.mspx Recovering the missing data: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx (#2 and #4) and http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=918069 (see Notes section under Resolution) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DBXpress (faster, more powerful, with even greater functionality than DBXtract) http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Avoiding Such Corruption in Futu - Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose. - Empty Deleted Items folder daily. - Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm - Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place. - Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause corruption (i.e., loss of messages) and provides no additional protection: Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...ning/index.htm -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Client - since 2002 Syke wrote: I have Thunderbird and OE6 installed under XP and use both. Normally DBX files don't have any file association, so Windows just says
the file extension. It looks like you've installed a program named WOE5Ex that has set itself as the default for the DBX file type. That in itself won't cause any problems unless you double click a DBX file, and the default program opens the file, updates and in the process corrupts it. The name of the program suggests that it would only read the DBX files and so shouldn't cause a problem. Since the DBX files are still there, you could try this process: How to import a single mail folder (*.dbx) http://www.insideoe.com/faqs/how.htm#importdbx For an alternate description, see he http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#imp1 Since the DBX files are already there, you'd have to make up a new folder name to avoid conflicts. Also see PA Bear's notes. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Syke" wrote in message ... I have Thunderbird and OE6 installed under XP and use both.
