Default Currency Symbol Problem - Costa Rican Colon

When I attempt to format my column of numbers using the
format cell, currency feature , I select Spanish Costa
Rican Colon which shows in the drop down box as a symbol
like a C with a line through it like a cents symbol but
when I click on it my numbers show in the spreadsheet
with a box shaped symbol. Why won't the proper symbol
show?

For the record when I format for the U.S or Guatemala it
works properly but Costa Rica does not. Any advice is
welcome. Thanks.
