Default Which Contact file to destroy?

Greetings,
I operate with Windows XP Prof and Microsoft Outlook 2002 (french version so
I have to translate).
- When sending a new email, Outlook proposes in To...contact names I have
destroyed some time ago and which are not in my contact file.
- In Tools/Address Book..., I get the message "Impossible to open the
address list...file may have been moved or destroyed or you do not have the
necessary authorization...". I do OK and the dialog box shows 2 Contact
files, one of which gives me the same message if I try to open it.
Unfortunetly, there is no destroy button available there.
- In Tools/Account.../Open or modify.../Microsoft Outlook Address Book, I
can not determine which one of the 2 "Contacts:Personnal files" I should
destroy?
Thank you for your help.

Just pick one. If it's the wrong one, remove the other and add the first one
back.

Thank you for a fast response Russ.
I now have only one contact file in Ms Outlook Address Book and it contains
all my contacts. Why is it then that those long ago destroyed contact names
keep appearing in To... when I send a new email?
Thank's for your help

Because typing in the To: field has nothing to do with your Contacts. It
uses the autocompletion cache.

Hello Russ,
Then, where are those long ago destroyed contacts hidden so that I can get
rid of them once and for all? No trace of them found with Outlook's advanced
search?
Thank you for your patience.

Remove individual addresses from the autocompletion cache by highlighting
the entry when presented in the suggested names list (use your arrow key to
migrate to the entry) and then hitting your Delete key before you tab out of
the field.
To clear the entire cache, follow the instructions he

Hello again Russ,
I tried it with one name and it worked. Since there are many, I would prefer
to clear the entire cache but just my luck, I have 2 *.NK2 file?
The first one is named "Outlook 2.NK2", 1k, created and modified oct 2005.
The one under is named "Outlook.NK2", 1 014k, created april 2003 and
modified today...
My guess is that "Outlook.NK2" is the one from it's size and since modified
today but I would prefer being sure.
Thanks again.

If you want to blow them all away, why does it matter? Rename them both. As
your queen once said, "Off with their heads!"

Me again Russ,
I decided that "chopping heads" was a bit drastic and not necessary since I
now realize that I will have to redo some time in the future. I have simply
deactivated this option I had note realized existed until now.
Thank you for your help and a Mery Xmas to you to.

There are some third party programs out there that will let you edit your
NK2 file if you want.
