Merging with a graphic

I'm trying to create business card-size name badges. I have two logos that I've merged together as a jpeg and placed in each card field. How can I still create a merge field?

I've tried creating a text box and inserting my merge fields but it only recognizes one name for every card on each page. The second name on my list shows up on every card of the next page. I've tried inserting the next name command but I get an error that tells me I can't use that in a footnote, blah, blah, blah.

I've also tried selecting the graphic and sending it "behind the text box" and inserting my merge fields but the merge command doesn't seem to recognize the request because the merge button is gray.

Any help would be appreciated!
