Default Office 2003 toolbars no longer appearing in 3D

Yesterday (Tuesday), after rebooting my computer, I noticed that all of the
office toolbars are looking flat - not the rounded, 3D look that I had
through Monday. They almost look like Office 97 (or older?) toolbars (i.e.
8- or 16-bit color). I've checked everything that I can find.

PLEASE do not say anything about the Windows appearance in the Display
control panel, as that has absolutely no effect on the Office toolbars - I
know, I've tried. Also, I should not have to use any 3rd-party applications
to fix this, as I'm just trying to get the toolbars to show up like they are
designed to.

Any ideas??

Thank you,
Alan

Well, what do you have selected in the Windows appearance in the Display
control panel?

If your Windows Display Properties use "Windows Classic" then that
will change the 3D look.

I have "Windows Classic style" chosen, but that's not what I'm talking about.
The toolbars should still have a "3D" effect to them, even with the classic
style. The effect that I'm talking about is a gradient, giving the toolbars
a rounded look. The icons on the toolbars are also not showing up correctly.
That's where I was talking about the 8- or 16-bit color depth-like display
(and I do have it set for 32-bit color).

Even if I switch to the "XP style", I still have the flat toolbars and
older-looking toolbar icons.

The only thing that I can think of is that on Monday, one of our desktop
consultants installed a needed program on my computer. I believe that she
did a registry edit to accomodate some aspect of the program. I also think
that this edit affected Office.

Any more ideas?

Thanks!

Hm. The Windows Classic Style looks pretty flat to me. But if you still have
flat toolbars with XP style, then something's odd somewhere. I'd have next
guessed color depth, but that's set to 32-bit already.

I can't think of anything else. Maybe you can ask the consultant? Or maybe
look at the support options/forums for the installed product -- the mfgs of
it may be aware of it changing Office settings.
