Default Mail client..help please

Hi group

Win XP Pro sp2
MS office 2003
IE v7
OE v6

Only recently when I click on a hypertext (to a contact via email), I have
the following error box:
"Could not perform operation because the default mail client is not properly
installed"

I am able to email ok via OE & hotmail.

regular virus checks etc.

TIA
